So, from quite an early age, one of my passions has been music. When I was 6 years old I used to get a bunch of pans and plastic bowls out of the cupboards and use them as drums (woodspoons being my drum sticks). After turning 14, I would start playing real drums, and 5 years later, I started picking up bass guitars, and not long after 'real' guitars.
I love it. I just love music. I love creating it, contributing to it, listening to it, joining in with it...I enjoy finding a song that fits my mood and just being able to kick back and lose yourself in the music. It's a stunning thing.
Now, contrary to popular belief, I have an incredibly wide taste in music. Ask most people who know me and they'll put me firmly in the 'metal' catagory. I.e. I listen to music where people scream, so I cant get on with any sort of music where people dont scream...
Its lies. ALL LIES!
Yes, I do have a certain affinity to metalcore and the type of music/vocals that surround it, however, it stretches way further than that. Right now, my tastes range from supremely chilled out acoustic work (Eva Cassidy, Jack Johnson, Andy McKee), through pop punk, punk rock, rock, rock'n'roll, hard rock, metal, heavy metal, metalcore, emo, screamo, trash-core, and you can even throw a little wash of techno in there too.
I cannot, however, stand the pop/indie world. Some of it I respect, as I have a great respect for anyone who can create a piece of music that moves someone (emotionally, not literally). I cannot stand the overproduced crap that floods the radio because it catches the attention of someone for a week. Its not music, its business. And fair play to them, if God chose to bless someone with a voice thats bearable, why shouldnt they make money out of it, right?
Rant over. This blog is going to be about the music that moves me. Either in its poetic meaning, lyricism or the musical genius that lies behind its creation. Once again I doubt people will read this, but again, I'm simply fond of the chance to write. So I'm using this space to write about music, albums, songs, soundtracks, etc.
Good times, first up...Protest the Hero - Fortress. Stay tuned, follower(s)!
